400 Seconds with Skema: Telling Our Story with Pecha Kucha

If we had a playlist of the phrases our team said most often in the past few months - like Spotify “Wrapped” but for Skema - Pecha Kucha would be near the top.

Pecha Kucha is a fast-paced presentation where the slides move forward automatically, and the presenter has to keep up. Invented by two Tokyo-based architects, the 400-second format - present 20 slides for 20 seconds each - is an extremely efficient way to get your point across. It forces the presenter to be concise, visual and hopefully memorable. It’s a great way to hone our story and hone it we have.

Last month we put our Pecha Kucha skills to the test when we participated in BuiltWorlds’ Demo Day competition. Presenting to BuiltWorlds Venture Forum members, our Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Marty Rozmanith, showcased what Skema is, how it works, and how it benefits architects and designers - all in under 7 minutes. Well, Marty sure made those 7 minutes count, because we were selected as the winner of January’s competition!

Skema was announced as the winner of BuiltWorlds January Demo Day competition. If you are a BuiltWorlds member you can watch the Pecha Kucha style demo here: https://builtworlds.com/videos/demo-drop-skema/

Before BuiltWorlds, our first Pecha Kucha was given to an architecture class at The Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) at the invitation of Ingeborg Rocker, School of Architecture Professor and Marty’s former colleague at Dassault Systèmes, Marty and other AEC leaders had 400 seconds each to paint a picture of what the AEC industry might look like 25 years from now. For the next generation of Georgia Tech architects, it was a class not to be missed!

Since then, presenting Pecha Kucha style has been a valuable tool in refining our elevator pitch.
